Ce plat s&rsquo;inscrit dans la tradition de la cuisine \u00e0 base d&rsquo;ingr\u00e9dients simples et locaux et des techniques qui \u00e9taient populaires aux Pays-Bas aux 19e et 20e si\u00e8cles. L&rsquo;origine de ce plat remonte \u00e0 la cuisine fran\u00e7aise, o\u00f9 la <strong data-start=\"419\" data-end=\"435\">sauce b\u00e9chamel<\/strong> (une sauce \u00e0 base de beurre, de farine et de lait) a \u00e9t\u00e9 introduite au XVIIe si\u00e8cle par le chef fran\u00e7ais Marie-Antoine Car\u00eame, puis d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e par Auguste Escoffier.
